Introduction to the Project

The period from December 2007 until December 2009 is dedicated to DBU funded project World of Carpathians - Awareness Raising about the Carpathian Biodiversity.

This project aims to increase the level of environmental knowledge and awareness of local communities in the Carpathians and visitors about the natural values, threats and protection of this region.

The project leading organisation is Thüringer Ökoherz e.V., (TÖH) , Germany, co-operating partners are DAPHNE - Institute of Applied Ecology and Carpathian EcoRegion Initiative (CERI).

Project is focused on everal target groups from 7 Carpathian countries - Slovakia, Czech republic, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia

• Primary school teachers, mainly natural science/biology teachers
• University students in teacher education
• Environmental educators
• Representatives of CERI environmental education organisations
• Visitors to the Carpathians
• Local communities
