In 1993 a group of young environmentalists had the idea to create an organisation that focused on the professional development of applied environmental research. DAPHNE - Institute of Applied Ecology is a non-profit organisation whose name represents not only a mythological symbol, but also the subject of the first project completed by the DAPHNE team - a study of the population biology of Daphne arbuscula - Slovak endemic plant species. Since its establishment, DAPHNE has expanded from a scientific organisation focused on applied ecology and research, to a nature conservation organisation with activities aimed at increasing the public's knowledge and understanding of the environment. Forteen
people are currently working in our team.
We collaborate with more than 300 environmental experts,
both from Slovakia and from the international community. We have employed
more than 100 mapping experts in order to map grasslands and peatlands
right across Slovakia.
