The Environmental Policy Department was established because DAPHNE recognised the increasing impact of national and European policy on nature protection in Slovakia. DAPHNE seeks to strengthen conservation policy and its role in the EU integration process and to ensure proper implementation of environmental objectives. Through influencing the legislative and decision-making process, through active lobbying and the promotion of conservation objectives, the policy team aims to protect the high natural value of ecosystems in Slovakia as well as in Central Europe as a whole.
Objectives

To enhance the proper implementation of EU nature conservation laws to national legislation with a special focus on the Habitats Directive and the designation of the Natura 2000 network.

To influence national agricultural policy towards greening subsidies and implementing a National agri-environmental programme and effective environmental measures.

To promote and gain both political and public support for an alternative environmental policy, to be designed within the framework of the European integration process.

To increase international co-operation between relevant organisations in order to ensure environmental conservation and protection of important European natural sites.

To enhance the active participation of local people in the decision-making process related to nature conservation, so as to influence both the environmental and social aspects of their everyday life.
