January 2010: New publication World of the Carpathians - Handbook for Environmental Education. Preview pdf

October 2009: Seminar Announcement - "Conservation of Wetlands  in the Carpathians",  on the 16th-19th November 2009  in Tatranská ©trba, The High Tatra Mts. The purpose of the seminar is to support exchange of information and best practices between Carpathian countries to improve conservation of wetlands, which belong to the most sensitive and threatened ecosystems worldwide. Main topics to be covered by the seminar are the following:

  • Policy issues and regional scope - status of wetlands, their conservation and wise use in the Carpathian Ecoregion. Situation in individual countries will be presented.
  • Identification of missing information and proposal of priorities to fulfil gaps for wetland protection in the Carpathians.
  • Mire ecology - description of main mire types in the Carpathians, their ecology, threats and processes, inventory of mires.
  • Active and restoration management - description of management techniques and their impact on fens, management planning.
  • Restoration of hydrological regime - studies and proposal for hydrological restoration, demonstration of case studies as practical experience with restoration and monitoring of fens.

Registration is open to experts and professionals interested in wetland conservation and
management in the Carpathians.

August 2007: An official opening of an educational trail Prielom Hornadu canyon connected with the press conference was organised in Cingov, August 2, 2007. Project partners, representatives of media and several guests from the region took part in it. Part of the opening was excursion at Tomasovsky viewpoint that was lead by the employees of the Slovensky raj National Park administration.

June 2007: From July 1, 2007 a new educational trail in Prielom Hornadu canyon is open to the visitors. 19 new information panels were placed along the tourist marked trail. You can enter the canyon either from Podlesok or from Cingov, in both location an entrance panel invites you to visit the canyon. Information panels deal with different natural values of Prielom Hornadu canyon: with geology and attractive rock formations, with the Hornad River, with flora, fauna and habitats with special focus on those that are rare, endangered and EU importance. One new information panel was placed at the entrance to the Sucha Bela gorge. It informs about the gorge and nature protection measures of this EC LIFE project. All panels are bilingual - Slovak - English in order to address also the foreign visitors. The educational trail was prepared within the EC LIFE project: "Conservation of Habitat Diversity in Slovensky Raj National Park".
